Is Gold Rush Days still on if it rains?

By the Gold Rush Dahlonega Editorial Team. Published .

The short answer

The parade is: the organizer says the 3:00 PM Saturday parade will proceed rain or shine. For the rest of Gold Rush Days there is no published rain policy. Check the organizer’s website on the day. NOAA normals for the nearest temperature station, Cleveland, Georgia, give a high of 71.0°F and a low of 44.4°F on October 17.

The parade is. The organizer says the Gold Rush Days parade, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026, will proceed rain or shine. For the rest of the festival there is no published answer. The organizer has posted no rain policy for the festival as a whole, so nothing on its site says what happens to the booths or the contests in bad weather.

What the organizer has said, and what it has not

It has said one sentence. The organizer’s parade page gives the parade time and then says the parade will proceed “rain or shine,” in capital letters. That is the only rain policy on any of the organizer’s pages.

The organizer’s site has no visitor rules page and no FAQ. Its published rules are for vendors and for people entering the parade. The vendor page lists festival times of 9:00 to 5:30 PM on both days and tells vendors that booths must be staffed at all times during festival hours. It does not say what happens in rain.

None of the organizer’s pages mentions admission, tickets or a gate, and the festival is held on public streets around the Public Square.

Where to check on the day

Start with the organizer’s website. Do not plan on calling. The organizer’s contact page is a web form and a mailing address, and no phone number is published. The organizer also has a Facebook page.

For the forecast, use the National Weather Service forecast for Dahlonega. A forecast goes stale within a day, so this page does not print one. Read it the morning you leave.

What mid-October is normally like

Dahlonega’s own NOAA station has precipitation normals only, so the temperatures here come from the nearest station with temperature data, at Cleveland, Georgia. NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 daily normals for that station give a normal high of 71.0°F and a normal low of 44.4°F on October 17, and 70.7°F and 43.9°F on October 18.

For rain, NOAA’s normals for the Dahlonega 4WSW station show 4.95 inches of precipitation in an average October.

Read together, those numbers describe a cool 9:00 AM opening and a mild afternoon in a month that is not a dry one. The plan your visit page has what to bring.

If it does rain

The Dahlonega Gold Museum is housed inside the 1836 Lumpkin County Courthouse, in the middle of the festival area. Georgia State Parks lists hours of 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, with adult admission of $10.00. No festival-weekend hours were found.

Crisson Gold Mine’s own site says it is open seven days a week, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, rain or shine. Consolidated Gold Mine’s tour is underground, and the mine says it stays around 60°F year-round. The gold panning page covers both, and the parade guide has the route for the one event that is promised either way.
