The short answer

The Gold Rush Days parade is Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 3:00 PM in downtown Dahlonega, and the organizer says it goes ahead rain or shine. It forms up on the east side of town, passes the Public Square and ends at the University of North Georgia drill field. The grand marshal is announced at 1:00 PM that day.

The route

The organizer publishes the route as a drawn map, not as a list of streets. On that map the parade starts on the east side of town, runs west along the main street, goes around the Public Square and finishes at the University of North Georgia.

We are not going to turn a drawing into turn-by-turn directions and risk sending you to the wrong corner. Open the organizer’s route map and pick your spot from it. The map file was uploaded in October 2022 and is still the one on the 2026 parade page.

Where to watch

No official source recommends a viewing spot, so we will not invent one. What the map does show is that the parade passes around the Public Square, which is also where the booths are. If you are already at the festival, you are already near the route.

Downtown streets are closed to cars for the whole weekend, so you will be on foot wherever you stand. Give yourself time to walk in from where you parked. The parking page has the closure times.

If you want to be in it

These rules come from the organizer’s parade page. Entries are handled by the organizer, not by this guide.

  • Line-up is by 2:00 PM. A volunteer directs each entry to its place.
  • Walk-up registration runs from noon to 2:00 PM on parade day.
  • Horses are not allowed in the parade.
  • Floats can be no longer than 30 feet.
  • Riding on floats on public roads is not allowed once the parade ends at the drill field circle.
